Ripon Air Cadets March to Victory\n\nIt was a busy day for members of Ripon squadron ATC this weekend. While four cadets marched through the rain on the start of their road marching which could see them taking part in the international 4-day marches in The Netherlands next year, seven members brought home the silverware in the wing swimming competition.

Cadets Tom Boyle, Zoe Shepherd, Chandler Brewer and Jonathan Matyear from 886 (City of Ripon) Sqn have started road marching training with over 60 cadets from Central and East Yorkshire Wing. The first session was on Sunday 3rd October and all completed the short 12km route around RAF Linton-on-Ouse. Following the march Sergeant Wayne Cobbett of Ripon Air Cadets, said “The conditions on the day were far from perfect with torrential rain at times but all the cadets kept on singing and marching.”

The day was the first in 9 training sessions aimed to build first aid skills, discipline and teamwork. All four cadets aim to finish the training and be part of a team at the RAF 2 Day Marches at RAF Cosford. Cadet Tom Boyle also intends to go one step further and represent the area at the Nijmegen Marches.

Meanwhile, fellow cadets Anna Burton-Cole, Aiden Johnstone, Laura McCarthy, Johnathan Owens, Sarah Owens, Alistair Simpson and Hannah Waddington took on the rest of squadrons in the wing in the annual swimming competition. There, they took nine individual medals, retaining the Senior Girls’ trophy which they won last year, and adding the overall trophy with top-3 finishes in two of the other three age groups. Four members of the team can now look forward to representing the wing in the forthcoming North Region championships later this month.

Ripon Squadron is currently recruiting new cadets aged 13 years or older and volunteer adult staff aged over 20. They meet at the Cadet Centre on Clotherholme Road every Tuesday and Friday from 7pm - 9.30pm. Anybody interested should contact the squadron on (01765) 609622 or email the commanding officer at oc.886@aircadets.org. For further information, visit the squadron web site at www.886.org.uk

I joined the action, but I doubt about whether it's useful.
